The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB), School of Medicine - Institute for Genome Sciences (IGS) is currently seeking a Research Project Coordinator. The position will be responsible for the operation of an observational prospective research study in a women’s health research group. The selected candidate will serve as the primary point of contact for study participants and lab and clinical support personnel. This position is also responsible for database management and will be involved with secondary data analysis and manuscript preparation. The primary project will be evaluating the association between personal and female hygiene behaviors (i.e., vaginal lubricant use) and risk for female reproductive tract infections.
Essential Functions Writes and finalizes standard operating procedures (SOP) and institutional review board documentation for research studies.
Assists in identifying and recruiting volunteers to participate in a longitudinal research study. Explains study objectives, risks, and benefits with potential volunteers to assist them in making decision regarding their participation. Implements research protocol including helping participants to fill out questionnaires.Designs and maintains databases of survey questionnaires and laboratory data using databases and REDCap.
Routinely monitors participants to ensure that samples are submitted in accordance with the research protocol. Reports any adverse effects to the PI and appropriate medical personnel. Obtains, processes, and transports specimens to appropriate laboratory according to established aseptic technique.
Completes case report forms and other records documenting enrollment and follow- up of participants. Facilitates clinic process by scheduling and following appointments, overseeing participant flow and maintaining supplies for the clinical kits.
Lead the collection and management of study data. Utilize statistical software for data management and cleaning of large datasets. Utilize data dictionary and questionnaires to identify variables of interest. Conduct secondary data analyses on topics posed by the investigators. Provide statistical information including models, tables, charts and graphs.
Prepare and present reports for presentation or submittal to sponsoring agent. Perform literature searches. Assist in the preparation of manuscripts, presentations and grant proposals.
