Position Description: This second-level epidemiology specialist serves as the statewide project director and epidemiologist for the unique and highly complex Michigan Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (MI BRFSS), which also includes the Michigan Minority Health BRFSS and the Michigan Asthma Call Back Survey. The MI BRFSS is a statewide surveillance system composed of annual landline and cellular telephone surveys that focus on health behaviors and outcomes among the Michigan adult population and is the sole source of information for a wide variety of health behaviors and outcomes that are of great importance to a multitude of state programs. The main funding source for the MI BRFSS is a cooperative agreement through the Behavioral Surveillance Branch at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), of which this position is the Principal Investigator. This position coordinates all levels of the MI BRFSS surveillance system, including sampling, questionnaire design, data analysis and interpretation, report writing, and data visualization. In addition, this position is responsible for day-to-day operations, including all communications and budget negotiations with CDC, implementation of program goals and plans, and management of all associated grants, contracts, and budgets with partner agencies and non- government organizations. This position also represents MDHHS with industry, academic, and local health department researchers who wish to participate in these surveillance systems.

Qualifications: Education Possession of a master's degree in epidemiology or public health, with a minimum of 8 semester (12 term) graduate- level hours in epidemiology and biostatistics courses.

Experience Four years of professional experience equivalent to an Epidemiologist, including two years equivalent to an Epidemiologist P11 or one year equivalent to an Epidemiologist 12.
