Position Description: The mission of the Bureau of Immunization is to protect the health of all New Yorkers through the prevention and control of vaccine-preventable diseases (VPD). The Program Support Unit (PSU), within the Bureau of Immunization, is responsible for monitoring and enforcing compliance with immunization requirements among children enrolled in schools and child care centers in New York City. PSU ensures compliance with immunization requirements for over 1.4 million school-aged children enrolled in approximately 5,000 public schools, non- public schools and child care centers in NYC. The City Research Scientist I will be assigned the core activities of analyzing immunization compliance in schools and child care centers.


• Conduct analyses using epidemiologic and program evaluation methods. • Develop sampling strategies for determining representative sites for audit • Review the Unit's protocols and procedures relating to the data collection and compliance monitoring. • Update field staff on data collection protocols and procedures for school immunization compliance audits. • Maintain the Unit’s database, including updating data on a regular basis. • Standardizing databases, merging records, cleaning data, and reconciling differences from various sources using SAS and/or R. • Improve the Unit's data systems to optimize efficiency and usability. • Review program data, assuring data quality and summarizing data on school immunization compliance for the Unit, and internal and external partners. • Assist with coordinating quarterly non- public school liaison meetings. • Provide written and/or oral summaries of analyses to Unit Chief and others, as directed. • Prepare abstracts for presentations at regional and national meetings. • Serve as Liaison between the Unit and program partners. • Assist with answering the Unit's hotline line.

Qualifications: A master's degree from an accredited college or university with a specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological or environmental science or in public health.

Preferred Skills

• Experience managing, cleaning and analyzing datasets using SAS and/or R software • Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Access, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word is strongly preferred • Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal and organizational skills • Independence, initiative and attention to detail • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks efficiently • Flexibility to respond to changing priorities.
