Position Description: Richmond City Health District (RCHD) is on the forefront of Public Health and Population Health and is looking for an innovative, flexible Public Health Nurse (PHN) to join their team. This exciting PHN position provides basic public health responsibilities and will work collaboratively with the team to develop the plan an to improve/increase services for targeted clients. The PHN will work in most of our clinical areas such as family planning, communicable disease, immunization, newcomer health, TB, ePAS, and emergency preparedness. It may involve community outreach, home visits, and evening and weekend hours.

This position promotes public health and well-being for Richmond City residents. Additional skilled services will include: assists/participates with communicable disease epidemiological investigation, ensuring quality assurance, case management, and assuring appropriate patient intervention and follow up, abnormal laboratory results, and other conditions. This nurse will promote awareness of health department and other community resources and coordinate referrals to outside agencies and physicians. Actions performed at this require licensure as a RN by state code.

Qualifications: •This recruitment may fill multiple positions.**

Successful applicant will have knowledge of the principles and practices of Public Health Nursing and of federal and state laws, regulations, policies and standards of nursing programs related to Public Health Nursing; and automated systems application. They will demonstrate skills in independent standard nursing procedures; effective oral and written communication; automated systems applications; establish and maintain effective working relationships with the community; able to work with culturally diverse population.

The PHN requirements are: eligibility for or currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in Virginia; current Professional CPR certification required.

The PHN will work independently by performing standard nursing procedures in the clinics and at community health events. The PHN would contact supervisor if plan of action is not covered in policies or guidelines or when circumstances are unusual or controversial.
