Position Description: The HAI/AR Program seeks a qualified individual to serve as an Infection Preventionist to coordinate PDPH’s Infection Control Assessment and Response (ICAR) activities; conduct ICAR assessments; and assist the core HAI/AR outbreak, surveillance, and response activities with the HAI/AR team and collaborators.

SPECIFIC DUTIES This position is grant-funded and may require availability after-hours. Duties will include but are not limited to: • Leading standardized infection control assessments in Philadelphia healthcare facilities as part of the CDC-supported Infection Control Assessment and Response (ICAR) program. • Analyzing data from the National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) and other sources to inform ICAR planning for Philadelphia healthcare facilities, e.g. using Targeted Assessment for Prevention (TAP) reports. • Assisting coordination of the Philadelphia HAI/AR Advisory Group in partnership with local healthcare facilities and key collaborators • Participating in the Philadelphia Regional Antibiotic Stewardship Collaborative. • Collaborating with the Pennsylvania Department of Health (PADOH) and partners to improve HAI/AR surveillance, prevention, and response. • Participating in core HAI/AR Program activities, including surveillance, outbreak detection and response, and developing and conducting educational programs for HAI/AR prevention. • Participating in PDPH, PA DOH, CDC, and partner organization HAI/AR meetings and seminars • Disseminating results of investigations through reports, presentations, and publications. • Mentoring rotating fellows and students as appropriate.

Qualifications: REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Microbiology, or a related healthcare field; Master’s in Public Health or related field preferred. • Certification in Infection Control (CIC), with minimum 5 years’ experience working as an Infection Preventionist. • Experience conducting infection control or related training and education for healthcare professionals. • Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications and NHSN. • Training in applied epidemiology and statistical analysis is preferred. • Excellent oral and written communications skills. • Enthusiasm for teamwork and interdisciplinary, hands-on work in healthcare settings • Able to work independently and in teams to establish and convene meetings, prepare summary reports and present findings. • Research experience preferred, including publishing or presenting scientific manuscripts and reports.

Organization Description: The Philadelphia Department of Public Health (PDPH) Healthcare-Associated Infection/Antimicrobial Resistance (HAI/AR) Program oversees public health surveillance and response to infections associated with the healthcare setting, including infections with multidrug-resistant organisms, contaminated medications, healthcare procedures, and devices. The HAI/AR Program also conducts educational activities to prevent and control the emergence of healthcare-associated infections and antimicrobial resistance.
