Position Description: This position will serve as the Deputy Medical Director of the HIV/STD/Viral Hepatitis Section. The Deputy Medical Director will oversee statewide public health initiatives aimed at improving the prevention and treatment of sexually transmitted diseases in Tennessee, and augmenting and improving HIV and HCV treatment capacity among safety net providers throughout Tennessee. This position will guide policy development and program implementation through clinical and programmatic oversight. This position is in the Physician job class, requires advanced management and leadership skills, and is an executive service position.

Job responsibilities include: • Utilize data to assess the public health burden and consequences of HIV, STDs, and Viral Hepatitis in Tennessee; • Design, implement, and evaluate public health programs to reduce morbidity and mortality related to HIV, STDs, and Viral Hepatitis in Tennessee; • Work closely with local health departments, governmental agencies, academic and community- based providers to augment and improve HIV and HCV treatment capacity throughout Tennessee; • Seek and oversee the preparation of state and federal funding applications; • Conduct investigations of HIV, STD, or Viral Hepatitis outbreaks; • Serve as a liaison between the Section of HIV, STD, and Viral Hepatitis and other state, federal, local, and community-based agencies.

This position is in the Division of Communicable and Environmental Diseases and Emergency Preparedness (CEDEP), HIV/STD/Viral Hepatitis Program. CEDEP includes a large and diverse group of physicians, epidemiologists, subject matter experts, and support services in a wide range of programs.

Qualifications: Desired Qualifications:

• MD with work experience in public health; • Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS) graduate; • Experience in the field of HIV, STD, Viral Hepatitis, or infectious disease; • Five or more years of full-time supervisory work; • Experience preparing grant applications and manuscripts for scientific publication; and • Strong oral and written communication, team building, program management and evaluation, decision making, leadership and computer skills.

Degrees must be from an accredited college or university. A transcript evaluation is required for degrees earned outside of the United States. Candidates must be eligible to work in the U.S.
