Position Description: Acadiana CARES in conjunction with the Louisiana Office of Public Health STD/HIV Program is seeking applicants for a field surveillance position based in New Orleans to cover HIV/STD reporting for the New Orleans and Houma areas. This position will be responsible for interacting with medical providers to ensure complete and accurate reporting of HIV and other STDs; completing case report forms through site visits to medical facilities, phone calls, and electronic medical record reviews; conducting in-depth record abstractions on selected pediatric cases and attending case review meetings; and participating in other surveillance-related activities. This position requires routine travel within the greater New Orleans area and some additional travel within Louisiana. Qualifications: Candidates for the position should hold a Bachelors Degree and/or have a minimum of two years’ experience in a health care or social services setting. Computer literacy and excellent communication skills required. Familiarity with medical terminology and electronic medical records, knowledge of HIV and STDs, previous work in a medical office environment, and/or experience in public health disease surveillance are preferred.
