Position Description: This position is in the Division of Communicable and Environmental Diseases and Emergency Preparedness (CEDEP), HIV/STD/Viral Hepatitis Program. CEDEP includes a large and diverse group of epidemiologists, subject matter experts and support services, in a wide range of programs.

This position serves as the Director of the HIV/STD Epidemiology and Surveillance Program. The Director develops and manages statewide Epidemiology and Surveillance efforts to quantify and reduce the public health burden and consequences of HIV/STD.

Job responsibilities include: • Quantify the public health burden and consequences of HIV/STDs in Tennessee; • Design, implement, and evaluate HIV/STD surveillance systems; • Conduct and supervise data analysis for HIV prevention, STD prevention, and Ryan White Part B using the respective data systems - eHARS, PRISM, CareWare, and others as assigned; • Conduct epidemiologic investigations of HIV/STD outbreaks and conduct HIV/STD surveillance studies; • Develop and disseminate Tennessee statewide HIV/STD data reports; • Participate in the preparation of state and federal funding applications and associated budgets; • Seek and prepare applications for Federal funding; • Ability to manage complex epidemiology and surveillance programs, reporting, programmatic activities, operational activities, technical activities, administrative activities, multi-million dollar budgets, contracts and procurement activities; • Ability to prepare epidemiology and surveillance programmatic plans, supervise/train epidemiologists and epidemiology support staff, work effectively with a variety of stakeholders, serve as section epidemiology and surveillance spokesperson, and make data presentations; • Participate in national epidemiology and surveillance meetings, activities, and consultations via CDC, HRSA, HHS, CSTE, APHA etc.; • Work closely with other governmental agencies, academic and community partners, and service providers statewide to promote use of surveillance data; • Serve as a epidemiology and surveillance liaison between the Division of HIV/STD and other state, federal, local, and community based agencies.

This is an executive service position requiring some travel, valid driver’s license and the availability to respond to emergencies.

Qualifications: Desired Qualifications: • Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS) graduate, PhD, DrPH, or MD with work experience in public health epidemiology or related field; alternatively, MPH with five or more years increasing experience in public health program work, including epidemiology; • Five or more years of full-time supervisory work; • Experience in the field of HIV/STD or infectious disease; • Proficient in using analytical software; • Experience preparing manuscripts for scientific publication; and • Strong oral and written communication, team building, program management and evaluation, decision making, leadership and computer skills

Degrees must be from an accredited college or university. A transcript evaluation is required for degrees earned outside of the United States. Must be eligible to work in the U.S.
