Position Description: The mission of the Bureau of Immunization (BOI) is to prevent the occurrence and transmission of diseases through immunization. The BOI promotes the immunization of children and adults against numerous diseases such as hepatitis A, hepatitis B, measles, mumps, rubella, varicella, diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, Haemophilus influenzae type B, polio, influenza, and pneumococcal disease and the human papillomavirus (HPV). BOI maintains the Citywide Immunization Registry (CIR), a database of immunizations reported to the health department. To improve reporting, the BOI established a Health Level 7 (HL7) Web Service to support real-time, bidirectional exchange of immunization data with data exchange partners such as Electronic Health Records (EHRs) and this is the primary method of reporting immunizations to the CIR.

DUTIES WILL INCLUDE BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO:

--Design, develop and implement measures to track and analyze quality of data submitted to the CIR via healthcare provider EHRs in an HL7 format.

--Conduct quality assurance activities while onboarding providers to ensure completeness and accuracy of the electronic exchange of health information from healthcare providers.

--Use SQL to create and perform complex database queries to evaluate data submitted to the CIR.

--Conduct outreach to providers reporting immunizations to the CIR to help resolve reporting problems and improve their vaccination rates.

--Supervise staff that work with healthcare providers who submit data to the CIR and use the CIR to improve their vaccination rates.

--Prepare abstracts and presentations for national, regional, and local conferences and meetings. --Assist with writing articles on research results for publication

Qualifications: 1. A doctorate degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological, environmental or social science and one year of full-time experience in a responsible supervisory, administrative or research capacity in the appropriate field of specialization; or 2. A master's degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological, environmental or social science and three years of responsible full-time research experience in the appropriate field of specialization.

Preferred Skills --Data analysis experience using SQL and statistical software such as SAS and SPSS

--Epidemiology or research experience; familiarity with HL7; proficiency in Excel

--Excellent oral and written communication skills

--Supervisory experience and the ability to initiate ideas and develop objectives to accomplish special projects dictated by program needs.
