Position Description: The Healthcare-Associated Infections (HAI) Epidemiologist ensures the statewide collection, monitoring, analysis, and distribution of HAI surveillance data. Monitors HAI data for quality and trends, analyzes data, and prepares reports to share information in a timely manner; evaluates and enhances the existing HAI surveillance system; establishes policies and procedures to document and improve current practices; liaises and communicates with internal and external stakeholders; provides technical assistance and disease guidance; provides epidemiologic support to HAI program grant management; and conducts training as requested. Valid driver’s license required.

Qualifications: Considerable knowledge of the cause, transmission, treatment, and prevention of communicable and other conditions of public health importance; methods of public health surveillance and disease outbreak investigations; federal and state laws, regulations, and policies regarding the reporting and control of disease; working knowledge of biostatistics, data analysis and interpretation, and data management techniques. Demonstrated ability to develop program goals and objectives; evaluate program effectiveness; establish and maintain effective working relationships; collect, quality assure, analyze, and present statistical data; and communicate effectively orally and in writing with health care professionals and the general public. Experience in epidemiology, public health, or a related area.

Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of medical and laboratory terminology; and basic knowledge of and skill sets related to statistical software packages. Demonstrated ability to lead and direct the work of others. Graduation from an accredited college or university with advanced coursework in public health, epidemiology, or biostatistics. Experience using the National Healthcare Safety Network; working with HAI surveillance; providing disease prevention recommendations; and working with database management systems (especially those used to manage population-based data).
