Position Description: The Academy is currently looking for a leader to fill its Research Director role, a key member of the Research team.

Job Summary:

As Research Director, lead the development of The Academy research agenda and conduct research studies analyzing the organization, financing, health policy and delivery of healthcare, with specific reference to provider health systems. o Research topics generated through internal discussions among The Academy team; o Research topics suggested by health system members; o Research topics sponsored by industry members. • Generate research ideas and develop proposals for funding of research and policy studies. • Conduct research studies, including methods such as in person interviews, telephone interviews, and quantitative surveys. • Author reports with research results and findings and present at The Academy events. • Responsible for maintaining in an accessible format and keeping current The Academy databases housing research data, external databases, commentaries, reference readings, abstracts and related data. • Support Collaboratives and other Academy initiatives with the conduct of research and policy studies. • Publish articles and commentaries individually and in conjunction with Academy executives and possibly members. • Maintain a steady production of publications (commentaries, research results and findings, abstracts, reference reading, etc.) for daily, weekly and monthly digital distribution.

Essential Functions: • Construct, normalize, and validate databases of health system operational, financial, and member information; • Perform data analyses; • Collect and synthesize information from web, trade press, academic literature, etc. • Collect, organize and maintain research data and references; • Assist with building and deploying research surveys and study results; • Build graphics, presentations, briefings, and white papers to disseminate research results; • Schedule and conduct research interviews and site visits; • Other duties as assigned by SVP and CEO.

Qualifications: Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: • Proficiency with Internet research websites and methods; • Ability to check, scrub, merge and/or recode data as needed to ensure clean analyses; • Ability to propose and experiment with different potential analyses; • Ability to create and layout graphs in presentations and papers; • Excellent verbal and written communication and interview skills; • Knowledge and interest in healthcare services and policy issues; • Must be organized and detailed oriented; • Flexible and able to take on other duties as needed; • Travel 8+ weeks per year; • Proficient in MS Office suite, in particular with MS Excel; Access, SPSS and/or other analytic software.

Education/Experience: • Master’s degree required, Ph.D. desirable (MBA, Economics, Sociology, MPH – Epidemiology or Biostatistics) • 2-3 years of experience in health services research or in related industries • 3-5 years of experience in healthcare operations experience with provider-based organizations.

Work and Travel Requirements: • Air travel and overnight stays will be required. Travel involves attendance at selected meetings may comprise approximately 20-25% of time.
