Position Description: Tobacco Research Fellowship

The Oklahoma Tobacco Research Center (OTRC) of the Stephenson Cancer Center (SCC) at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, College of Medicine, in Oklahoma City is currently recruiting one (1) postdoctoral research fellow (1-3 year appointment) who aspires to become an independent academic researcher in the areas of tobacco cessation, cancer prevention, and health disparities.

The fellow will work with the research teams of Drs. Michael Businelle (http://www.kendzorbusinelleresearch.com/) and Damon Vidrine (http://otrc.stephensoncancercenter.org/AboutUs/Faculty.aspx), collaborating on studies that use mHealth technology to identify antecedents of and intervene upon cancer risk behaviors (e.g., smoking, exercise, diet, at-risk drinking) in vulnerable and underserved populations (e.g., low SES, racial ethnic/minorities, homeless, HIV-positive, etc.). Treatment and assessment approaches utilize data collected via smartphone (e.g., ecological momentary assessments, GPS coordinates) and wearable sensors. Dr. Businelle is the leader of the OTRC mHealth Shared Resource, and Dr. Vidrine is co-leader of the Cancer Prevention and Control Program at the SCC.

The fellow will be highly involved in manuscript preparation (primary and secondary roles) using data from completed and ongoing studies. The fellow will also receive training in novel quantitative and statistical approaches such as multi-level modeling and structural equation modeling. In addition, fellows will take part in the formal OTRC training program which includes both coursework and seminars that will provide training in grant writing and preparation, conducting community-based participatory research, clinical trials, tobacco-related research methods, advanced statistical techniques, and tobacco biomarkers.

Qualifications include a doctoral degree in the behavioral sciences, public health, psychology, or other relevant area. Excellent writing skills are required. Experience with diverse populations, tobacco research, health disparities, and quantitative methods are preferred but not required. Salary and benefits are phenomenal. In addition, fellows will have access to funds to conduct research, and attend external trainings and conferences.
